Reportedly built in 15th Century France, the Chapel was abandoned after the French Revolution. After World War I, a young architect discovered the chapel and negotiated a transfer to Jericho, New York. The chapel was shipped to the United States and reconstructed in 1927 by John Russell Pope. The chapel was willed by its last owner to Marquette University in 1964. Some of the artifacts displayed at the chapel are so rare, they predate the chapel itself by centuries. There are ancient Spanish tapestries, coats of arms, crucifixes, and even a contemporary rooftop. It is one of the few exhibits in the world where visitors are permitted to touch the artifacts.
